Cinema and Retail Development - Colchester
PEP were appointed as civil and structural engineering design consultants for this four storey steel framed building, which was constructed behind a retained, listed masonry façade.
The development comprised basement and ground floor restaurants and shops, together with a six screen cinema on the upper floors. It was constructed within an extremely tight site, in the town centre and within the financial constraints imposed by the Client.
The demolition of the existing building and the construction of piled foundation and basement structure necessitated careful consideration of the stability of the adjoining listed buildings and safe methods of construction.
