Quantum Care

Over a three year period PEP acted as consultants for a series of 60 bed Nursing Homes constructed within Hertfordshire, with some facilities encompassing Day Care Centres.

The Homes are Woodlands in South Oxhey, Vesta Lodge and Fosse House in St Albans, Hailey Hall in Hoddesdon, Great Brookmead in Borehamwood, Heath House in Bushey, Greenacres in Hatfield, Oakland Home in Potters Bar as well as sites in Baldock, Watford and a 20 bed extension to an existing nursing home in Hertford.

All projects were of timber framed construction on power floated ground floor slabs, some of which were suspended. Foundation solutions varied. As well as foundations and substructure works, PEP were also responsible site drainage schemes and access roads.

North East London Mental Health NHS Trust

PEP were appointed by contractor Mansell on this Design and Build contract, to redevelop part of the Goodmayes Hospital site in north London to provide a 72 bed care home.

The building is of traditional construction, with loadbearing masonry walls supporting precast concrete floors. Foundations are of traditional trench fill construction.

The building was designed to accommodate concrete pod en-suite shower rooms.

The Abbeyfield Society

PEP were appointed as civil and structural engineering design consultants for the construction of a 48 bed sheltered care unit at Windsor End, Beaconsfield, and more recently a day care centre extension. In addition, work was also undertaken on a two-phase development to provide additional accommodation at The Drive Nursing Home in Radlett.

Luton & Dunstable NHS Trust

PEP have been involved with a number of developments at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital, including:

Refurbishment and reconstruction of the Accident and Emergency Department, an extension to the Postgraduate Medical Centre to accommodate additional library space, IT skills training laboratory, plus seminar and meeting rooms. PEP was also responsible for the design of the link bridge between the main ward block and the hospital administration department, and the new extended Pathology Department offices above the mortuary.

Dunstable Medical Centre

PEP were approached by a developer to undertake the design and detailing of a new .super surgery. to be created in Dunstable High Street which will bring together five separate Doctors Surgeries, a pharmacy, the local PCT offices, and a minor operating theatre all in one building.

Construction is due to start on site toward the end of 2009.

Hertfordshire County Council

PEP have been appointed by Hertfordshire County Council to prepare feasibility reports for the potential extension and/or refurbish of thirty existing Home Care/Nursing Home units across the county.

Our brief includes liaison with the numerous local authorities across the HCC area to determine the extent of record information they hold on each building, review of such record information as part of an initial desk study, undertaking structural inspections to assess the condition of each structure, and providing advice on future options in the form of a written report. The work covers homes in the following locations:
