The existing three form entry Priestmead primary school was constructed in the 1930’s and extended in the 1950’s, the school buildings are in poor condition and are generally not fit for purpose. A new school building will be provided providing for four form entry, 26 full time equivalent nursery spaces and specialist 12 pupil capacity ASD unit. The new building will be arranged over three floors, comprising of a main hall, small hall, studio and kitchen. Once complete this will allow the old school building to be demolished to provide soft landscaped area. Piling works are due to commerce early in the new year.

St. John’s Church Primary School in Peterborough was built in the 1970s and was considered to be in poor condition and unsuitable for future education provision. A new 2-storey school was built with an open-plan layout to both floors, made possible through the use of prestressed concrete flooring supported off the steel frame structure. Nursery and infant teaching spaces are located on the ground floor and junior teaching areas on the first floor. 

The school was opened in Winter 2015.

PEP are appointed as Consulting Civil & Structural Engineers by our Clients, Cathedral (Brighton) Ltd, in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council and the University of Brighton, to deliver a £80m mixed-use PPP regeneration scheme.

The scheme will include 140 homes, 485 student apartments, 4200m² office space, a library building for University of Brighton, new facilities for South East Dance to be built on the old Municipal Market site, just off Grand Parade.

 West Town Academy is a new Primary School constructed on the former Peterborough hospital site and is part of a wider regeneration scheme. The project includes for the retention of the existing façade to the First World War ‘memorial site’ which is being underpinned and included within the finish building. This has presented a difficult challenge to the normal school construction methodology and involves complex planning and coordination of both the temporary and permanent works, including during the piling stage.

The existing Cedars Manor primary school dates back to the 1940’s and is made up of a sprawling single storey flat roofed building with numerous level changes throughout the complex. The school is expanding to three from entry, of which 6 places will be offered for pupils with special educational needs and will incorporate 26 full time equivalent nursery spaces. The new building will be part three storey for the teaching block with a single storey wing providing a main hall, small hall and kitchen. The constrained site is dominated by school buildings and part of the existing school is required to be demolished to allow for the new building to be constructed. Once the new school building is occupied the existing school buildings will be demolished to create external space, play areas, sports field and green space.

Aylward Primary School occupies a large site near Stanmore. Constructed in 1952, the single storey buildings sprawl over a large area and sit at two levels due to the sloping nature of the site. The new site will provide increased capacity for “three form entry”, 26 full time equivalent nursery spaces and a specialist 12 pupil capacity unit for children with disorders on the Autistic Spectrum. The new building will be part two storey / part single storey and provide modern, energy efficient building to support the teaching activities. Considerable effort was taken when choosing the location of the new building to allow traditional spread foundation due to the numerous mature trees across the site. Following construction the old buildings will be demolished allowing for green space and a sports field.

The former Chantry High School was demolished and replaced by a new building to accommodate up to 900 students, completed in September 2015. The design included the construction of a new state of the art teaching block, improved social and activity space provision and attractive hard and soft landscaping across the site.
